Open Ceramics Studio at Arbutus Folk School
Join us in the Studio!
Open Studio is a time for community members to work on self-directed projects in handbuilding and wheel throwing, with our knowledgeable studio staff present to answer questions and offer support.
We accept payment on-site at the studio via check or card. Pre-registration is not required. Simply drop in, purchase a single session or four-session punchcard, and attend anytime the studio is open within one year of purchase! A session is any 3-hour block of time during Open Studio hours.
Open Studio Hours:
- Sundays 9am-3pm
- Thursdays 11am-5pm
- Coming soon! One additional 3-hr Flex Session each week! More info below.
Open Studio is closed on the following dates and holidays: Juneteenth, Thanksgiving, and December 24th-January 2nd.
Pricing:
- $40 – Single 3-hr Session – includes clay, glaze, firing, and use of studio equipment/tools.
- $160 – Four 3-hr Sessions – includes clay, glaze, firing, use of studio equipment/tools, and one additional drop-in hour for trimming or other small tasks
As participants come and go throughout Open Studio hours, access to tools and equipment will be first-come, first-served. Open Studio is not intended for production-pottery use, but for a community of practice, inspiration, and encouragement. Participants must have previous experience in ceramics (such as a class) for studio etiquette. Open Studio time remains open for students in ceramics courses who have missed a class, and for drop-offs/pick-ups for our kiln-firing services. Ages 14+

Coming Soon: Flex Sessions
Starting in April 2026, we will be offering one additional 3-hour Flex Session each week. This will be an ordinary 3-hour Open Studio session taking place at various days and times each week, with a goal to better serve those seeking sessions outside of typical working hours. Punch cards are still punched and still available for purchase as usual during these session. Please note that because this is only a 3-hour session, it will be the best use of your time to arrive at the beginning, as participants are not allowed to stay past the scheduled end time and will receive a punch whether participating for the full 3 hours or not.
