Cancellation & Participation Policies

Please note that all Arbutus Folk School classes have an enrollment minimum, and under-enrolled classes will be canceled. In the case of a cancellation due to under-enrollment, we will contact you by email 3 or more business days before the class start date; you will receive a full refund for any class fees you have already paid. Don’t want your favorite classes to be canceled? Sign up early and invite a friend!

For student cancellations/withdrawals occurring more than 14 calendar days before the class start date, registration fees are refundable less a $20 administrative fee per order.

For student cancellations/withdrawals occurring less than 14 calendar days before the class start date, registration fees are non-refundable.

At this time, we are unable to offer course credit or registration transfers to another person.

This policy honors the time, energy, and resources invested in courses as the start date approaches and helps us minimize pressures to increase overall course costs.

Students who wish to cancel their enrollment for a class starting in more than 14 calendar days may do so by emailing info@arbutusfolkschool.org with student name and class title.

For class cancellations by the school, as for inclement weather or under-enrollment, we will process a refund in full, and offer options to reschedule where possible and preferred.

If you are on the roster for a class and then decide not to attend, you may still receive emails that the instructor sends to the student list. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your participation and support of Arbutus Folk School!

Essential Eligibility Criteria
Students must be able to see and perceive instructions and demonstrations by an instructor independently OR with the assistance of an attending companion or volunteer aide. Students must be able to follow both verbal and non-verbal instructions given by instructors independently OR with the assistance of an attending companion or volunteer aide. Students must have sufficient strength in hands and forearm to safely handle tools and equipment that could cause injury if not properly handled, OR with the assistance of an attending companion or volunteer aide. Students must be able to address all personal needs (toileting, medication, hydration, etc.) independently OR with the assistance of an attending companion. If you will be attending with a companion, please notify our staff so the instructor can prepare a space for you to participate side-by-side.
For a class that will require hand dexterity and strength, lifting, standing, reaching, bending, and alternately sitting/standing/walking to retrieve materials and tools, Volunteer Aides are available to support community members with these and other physical needs during class. Aides can also support learning needs if needed, such as repeating instructions or note-taking. Please email us at info@arbutusfolkschool.org to request a Volunteer Aide, including your anticipated needs and the class for which you are making the request, and we will do our best to match you with a Volunteer Aide as available.
